The top U13–U19 boys and girls teams play in elite leagues and may not play in Heartland.
The leagues
- The Elite Club National League (ECNL)
- MLS NEXT
- The Elite Club Regional League (ECRL)
- The National Academy League (NAL)
- National 1 (N1)
- The Mid-American Developmental League (MADL)
- The Sporting Development League (SDL), and others
Who pays for what
- The seasonal registration fees SBV collects pay for the Heartland league.
- If your team isn't in Heartland, the team gets the money that would have gone to Heartland for its registration, to use for its own league.
- The team pays all that league's fees: registration, referees, trainers, field rental, background checks and player cards.
