Passing and receiving with purpose

PassingReceiving

What this week is about

This week is about passing and receiving with purpose: every pass helps the next action, and every first touch sets up the next pass. Players pass and move in a busy square and a passing square, decide to turn or play it back under pressure, keep the ball in a rondo (a keep-away game), and finish with a game where goals after five passes count three.

The board has this week's full plan. Change any step by dragging something else onto it.

Your practice

60 of 60 minutes

  1. Warm-up

A fun game to start as soon as players arrive.

    10 min

Whole team; half the players have a ball · About 30 × 30 yards

  2. Technical

Teach the week's skill: every player with a ball, no real defender yet.

    15 min

Groups of 5 or 6, one ball per group (a second ball once it flows) · A square about 12 × 12 yards per group

  3. Skill vs a defender

    Use the skill against a defender: 1 v 1, 2 v 1, tag games.

    10 min

Groups of four: two end players, an attacker and a defender · About 20 × 15 yards per group

  4. Small-group game

A small team game with a rule that brings the skill out.

    10 min

Groups of six: four outside, two defenders inside (a fifth outside player makes it 5 v 2) · A square about 10 to 12 yards across per group

  5. Small game

Every practice ends with a game. Let them play.

    15 min

Two teams of five to eight, with keepers · About 50 × 35 yards
